Trip around the world

beginning with biking from Finland to Norway - and back
July 1st - July 11th
(Toni Tanner & Jarkko Luhtala)

Well, we decided to visit Norway for the first time. But as it would have been too easy to drive by car, we changed to old bicycles (see picture above, where I'm about to leave from home). One Monday morning we just started pedaling from Teuva. After one night in barn, we were in Turku From there we took a ferry to Stockholm. It was chilly there! (and rainy) The rest of the nights we slept in the tent.

Oslo 379kms. (235miles) - And it's raining (not unusual!)

Highlight of thursday was my puncture, that (luckily) happened close to a city of Arboga (just before that picture above). On Friday Jarkko's right pedal fell off! But luckily again, we had to pedal only 20 kms (twelve miles) to get to next city and that pedal welded back to place. Then we swam in Vänern, although the water was soooooo cold!.

Finally on Saturday we crossed the border of NORWAY! - and we kept on pedaling all the way to Oslo. On Sunday we just carried on west. Jarkko's back tire exploded, we fixed that, and (yes,) carried on. Finally we found ourselves from Kongsberg, and there was Nordic champs in Downhill biking. I saw some of my friends,
- - - AND THEN: WE TURNED AROUND!!!!! - - -
We were on our way back HOME!

in Kongsberg

After one week of biking we were still on the road. At this point we stopped stopping After crossing the border back to Sweden on Tuesday morning, we didn't stop until we were on board on the ship to Finland. This 483kms (300miles) took 36 hours. The reason for not sleeping that night was, that it was raining the whole night, and we didn't want to get our tent wet.
So, we are in the ferry trying to sleep on the floor. Finally we fall asleep. But in the morning we wake up as they announced that we are about to arrive to Helsinki! Then we realised that we took one ferry too early! Oh well, one hundred extra kms (60 miles) to get back home, so we better get going. Once again we didn't sleep at all, and we were at home after 368kms (229miles) and about 23 hours.
As we were close to end, we decided NOT to do this again any time soon, but after some time we are already planning new adventures to carry on the trip around the world.
